Erfurter Malzwerke GmbH is a state-of-the-art company boasting a long-standing tradition of malt production for beer brewers. Since 1869, we have been supplying the German and international markets with high-quality brewing malt.
With GETREIDE AG as our owner, since 1992, we have developed our traditional company into a future-proof partner of the brewery industry worldwide. Following extensive investment in state-of-the-art technology, the company now operates two of the most important malt production sites in Europe.

Quality as a central concern: The quality control of Erfurter Malzwerke takes place both in the field as at the supplier’s warehouse. We monitor reception of malting barley and malting wheat, every production step, and the shipment of malt from our facilities in Erfurt and Hamburg. The central laboratory enables comprehensive monitoring and control of raw materials, as well as of production and distribution of quality malt up to its disposition. With its integration into our quality management, energy management is an important pillar of our quality efforts.
Volker Riechers has been with Erfurter Malzwerke GmbH since 2013. As the managing director of the company, he is responsible for both production sites in Erfurt and Hamburg, as well as handling sales domestically and internationally.
Matthias Ludewig joined Erfurter Malzwerke GmbH in 2023. As the business manager, he oversees the areas of financial accounting, execution, procurement, and general administration for both company sites.
Oliver Matheis joined Erfurter Malzwerke GmbH in 2020. As site manager of the Erfurt site, he oversees the areas of production and technology. Moreover, he is responsible for technology management. He can avail of long-standing experience in the brewery and malting industry.
Frank Klinke has been with Erfurter Malzwerke GmbH since 2013. As site manager of the Hamburg site, he oversees the areas of production and equipment. He can avail of long-standing experience in various activities in the brewery and malting industry.
